FEIJOADA
Duration: 2h30
Premiere: Passages Transfestival - Metz, 2021

Chore-gastronomic work.
Feijoada is a dish made with black beans and pork meat, a typical Sunday meal, perhaps the most well-known dish of Brazilian cuisine. Surrounded by 6 musicians, 3 performers, and a cook, choreographer Calixto Neto invites the audience to experience the preparation of a feijoada in real time. The aromas of the cooking process mingle with samba dances and songs, as well as personal and political anecdotes. What meat is the cheapest at the market right now? Where do the inequalities that characterize Brazilian society come from? Which bodies are subjected to violence? And how else can the (hi)story of the national dish, feijoada, be told? In this roda de samba, a special gathering where people play music and dance in a circle, rhythm and movement become the common language. With Feijoada, Calixto Neto and his team invites the audience to savor the dish together and initiates candid encounters between people and their cultures.

Feijoada was created as part of the Lia Rodrigues portrait for the Festival d'Automne in Paris, in 2021.
