BRUITS MARRONS

Premiere: March 20, 2027 at Points Communs - Nouvelle Scène Nationale de Cergy Pontoise
Jardim Atlantico is a protean choreographic project that explores memory, notions of displacement and imaginative speculation. Jardim Atlantico is also the neighborhood where Calixto Neto grew up, on the outskirts of the city of Olinda, on the coast of the state of Pernambuco, in northeastern Brazil.
To activate this universe, the choreographer imagines Jardim Oriental as a moving artistic platform, a space for sharing and experimentation where dance dialogues with other practices: a living garden, a territory of friendship and political resonances, a place of reception for artists from the peripheries, bodies that vibrate from the margins and narratives still little visible. A space where legacies are woven, where wounds are danced and where the unexpected can arise. A project inhabited by an imaginary universe, which can take various forms of activation.
The imaginary surrounding the name of this neighborhood, the experience of having lived there and all the reflections and poetic speculations that may result are at the base of this project which develops in two parts: the creation of a solo show and the setting up of a collective demonstration. Jardim Atlantico is thus the name of a solo piece, inhabited by the choreographer’s memories and personal archives, in dialogue with his mother, a former dancer, as well as a research into the traditional dances of Pernambuco.
By thinking about the moment of the presentation of a dance piece beyond its duration, Jardim Oriental also unfolds as a set of proposals around this piece, as if it were part of an ecosystem that gives it context, a neighborhood. A dance piece like a house, surrounded by other performative proposals within a ephemeral neighborhood.
The basics of this project, and the aspects of joint construction of a programming time with a host venue, were tested during the Dance Pavilion - Jardin Atlantique, at the Théâtre de la Commune d'Aubervilliers in partnership with Les Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationales de Seine Saint-Denis 2025.
This new phase of the project, which takes its name in Portuguese and explores the idea of cohabitation and welcomes the solo creation, will be launched on March 20, 2027, as part of the Arts & Humanities Festival, at Points Communs - Nouvelle scène nationale in Cergy-Pontoise and Val d'Oise.
